Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor

Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor features the main protagonist's quest against Sauron to avenge his family and restore their honour. On one day, Sauron kidnapped Talion for sacrifice but instead Celebrimbor assisted Talion's resurrection and gave him new abilities before sending him into battle against Sauron and his three dark lords (Hammer, Black Hand and Tower) within an open world third person slasher environment - performing not just story missions but also side quests within its universe.

Talion uses his sword as the primary tool in battle with Sauron and becomes his sacrifice, for which the ancient Elf is called upon: Celebrimbor must remove the seal from his Ring in order to subjugate all those bearing its legacy, however in return Celebrimbor bestows upon Talion his spirit which allows Talion's spirit to take revenge across time, remaining inside human minds forever more.

Storyline-wise, The Return of the King features many familiar faces from its predecessor trilogy; for example Golum who discovers both in spirit and man his "bright master", united by the Ring of Omnipotence. Once more Golum provides expert guidance in Mordor since Celebrimbor has no memory whatsoever - thus leading him and Talion on their mission for revenge at Lava Mountain ruins.

RPG components allow players to upgrade their level and skills in order to track down and kill Uruk captains quickly, who form part of almost every quest. Third-person slasher play brings massive battles as well as an intricate plot about The One Ring that tells its own tale from within by way of an inanimate creature who has lived here for 3000 years!
