Steven Universe: Free the Light offers players a chance to lead an ensemble cast from previous appearances of its franchise: Garnet, Pearl, Amethyst, Lapis Azure Peridot and Bismuth are included on your team of seven people who had all previously appeared as characters within its universe. The young boy who inspired Free the Light himself leads this group of individuals as you play as him through three chapters before taking control. All are precious gems endowed with human traits and various magical capabilities that allow them to successfully defend against waves of enemies. At various points throughout Stephen's adventure, his opponents must be vanquished; these may include both familiar characters as well as those created specifically to aid him. Combat is handled using gem characters synthesized from rarer stones such as Rainbow or Smoky Quartz for optimal effectiveness in battle.
