update details
Gloomhaven is a huge, harsh board game that allows you to go into the dungeons and ruins of an unforgiving world. There are 17 mercenaries available for players to choose from, each with their own motivation to hit the road. In addition to the global goal, each player also has an individual goal for each new scenario, which can lead to interesting situations - a conflict of interests between the team and the mercenary.
The campaign continually provides choices, which leads to non-linear development plot. There are plenty of events - battles with monsters, various tasks and leveling up your hero. The scenario book contains almost 100 plots that can be viewed individually as independent missions. But it’s better to go through the entire campaign, especially taking into account the unique legacy mechanics, which will allow you to unlock new heroes, items and locations.
The game has many unique components and mechanics. So, for example, when completing his main task, the mercenary loses the incentive to continue and leaves the game, and it is proposed to take a new one in his place. Gameplay is based on character decks. From them, cards are taken that make it possible to attack, defend, use class abilities and much more.
In addition to the unique character deck layout system, the game does not need to use traditional dice or dice for board games. Instead, the rules provide for the use of modifiers. But even if luck is always on the player’s side, you shouldn’t relax - the enemies here have their own rules of behavior that are logical for their essence and fighting style. Moreover, they also upgrade throughout the game, just like the heroes themselves.
