update details
Battle Realms: Zen Edition is a modern release of an influential real-time strategy game set in an oriental fantasy setting originally released two decades ago. This modernized edition includes both versions; original and Winter of Wolf; with working multiplayer support added and many bugs fixed; it now supports modern monitors as well as operating systems; plus creators have continued developing it further!
Battle Realms: Zen Edition pits two light and dark clans against one another:
- Dragon are traditional Japanese weapons wielders who combine gunpowder, traditional Japanese weaponry and magic;
- Wolf warriors who prefer natural magic over brute strength are at war against Serpents (those utilizing firearms and spells);
- whilst Serpents specialize in firearms as a form of magic and utilize firearms themselves primarily;
- Lotus members possess some of the most cutting-edge technologies among other groups (and their school of magic is particularly advanced).
Rice and water are the sole resources in this RTS game, while peasants harvest both for their agricultural fields as liquid resources, while soldiers harvest liquid resources before being transformed into various warrior types: samurai, berserkers spearmen bombardiers archers etc. To retrain an individual warrior Yin or Yang points must be spent researching combat techniques before returning him/her back home for training again.
Terrain and weather conditions play a big part in gameplay; for example: rain helps extinguish fires faster while higher elevations boost archer attacks. Here, buildings of any angle or group virtually do not differ functionally from one another. Horse catching and managing are also features here; units are kept to an absolute minimum to facilitate micromanaging your small army. Alongside the campaign mode is an exciting battle mode with 4 entertainments: "Survival", where one squad member cannot die; "Destruction", burning all enemy houses; "Destroy the Fortress", breaking enemy strongholds - as its name implies; "Hunger", where users fight opponents with few resources available to them.
