Polars uses a science fiction setting. The action takes place in an alternative historical period before the start of the Cold War between the USA and the USSR. Events take place in a world where the space programs of superpowers have been more successful than in our reality. In the story, the Soviet Union begins to engage in suspicious activities on Mars. In 1984, the Americans sent a shuttle with astronauts there to conduct an investigation. A girl named Anna is separated from her team and accidentally stumbles upon traces of an extraterrestrial civilization. This is the woman you have to play for. The protagonist often comments on her actions. The characters' lines are voiced. In addition to the story mode, it is possible to complete tests at individual levels. There is also a built-in map editor that allows users to create their own challenges and share them with other users.

Polars is an adventure game with elements of a puzzle game, a 3D platformer and a sandbox. It uses a first-person view.
