Tails: The Backbone Preludes

Tails: The Backbone Preludes takes fans of virtual entertainment to an alternative world where the Earth is inhabited by humanoid animals. The events take place in dystopian Vancouver. Its locations are inspired by post-Soviet architecture and Art Deco style. The project is made in a post-noir setting. Formally, this is a new part of the series, but in fact the title is a prequel to the original game and its prologue. The product is designed more for those users who went through the original. Users can meet several old acquaintances there. Some of them are given the role of full-fledged protagonists.

Divided into chapters, the plot revolves around 4 anthropomorphic animals:

• Eli is a scientist who studies a mysterious artifact with his colleague Jorge and doubts the public benefit of his work;
• Clarissa is an heiress from a wealthy family, with whom her mafia father is always dissatisfied;
• Howard is a photography enthusiast who goes to college and lives with Larry;
• Renee is a journalist who has revealed the terrible truth and suffers from a lack of freedom in her life.

The traits of these heroes and heroines influence the dialogue. The narrative here is non-linear. The decisions players make influence the further development of the story. After completing each act, users are shown a branching tree with storylines that they missed. All this together increases replayability. The video game itself is a detective adventure game with a side view. It has two types of two-dimensional graphics - pixel and hand-drawn. The gameplay consists of exploring locations, interacting with interactive elements of the environment, and conversations with NPCs. The gameplay is periodically diluted with random events.
