Vampyr

Vampyr is an ambitious action-RPG project from French developer DONTNOD Entertainment. The announcement took place in the summer of 2018. The project received mixed reviews from critics and gamers. Despite this, the game's graphics are impressive, as is its wonderfully dark atmosphere.

The plot of the game takes us to London at the beginning of the 20th century. The main character is a doctor who becomes a victim of a vampire. Now he himself is the personification of night terror. However, the oath he took at the beginning of his medical career obliges him not to harm people. Two entities are fighting in it - human and monstrous. Jonathan Reed wakes up in a cesspool for the remains and, feeling a terrible attack of thirst, attacks his own sister. Having cleared his mind again, the hero repents of what happened and promises to reveal the reason for the regrettable action. The events of the game take place during the Spanish flu epidemic that raged on the streets of London in the eighteenth years of the twentieth century.

The gameplay is presented in two main variations - either we save the population for free, or hopelessly milk it with donor handouts. Salvation requires fussy running around the crippled and sick in the name of their cure; the second option after recovery (or before) allows you to bite out the blood supply of the patients. Crafting and leveling up won't shake up the routine too much, but will still add some variety. The fights here are structured in a very controversial way; I would like to see a more reasonable target acquisition mechanic. The role-playing game turned out to be secondary in its key meaning - history, for some reason the attention here rests on the dull survive elements.

The whole essence of the game mechanics comes from this internal confrontation. The main character can do without casualties throughout the entire game. But if his health is severely damaged, he will simply need to get recharge, and then, on the night streets of London in 1918, a brutal hunt for innocent people will begin. Technically, this game is an action game with a third-person view. Our vampire has superpowers that can be improved. He fights with both conventional weapons and tears opponents to pieces with his kittens and fangs. His strength is ten to fifteen times that of the average man. Only special bullets and other enchanted weapons can stop him.
