Dream Engines: Nomad Cities gives you the opportunity to be the mayor of a flying city. The action takes place in a dimension where some kind of apocalypse occurred. After it, the surrounding area was filled with hordes of monsters, and settlements became mobile, since staying in one place for a long time is now very dangerous. They have turned into bastions where those few who managed to survive hide from external threats. These people are trying to adapt to new conditions using the developments of the old world. The setting also has steampunk elements. It also intertwines ordinary dreams and nightmares.

Dream Engines Nomad Cities combines sandbox, city builder, role-playing game and survival. When the city is on the ground, the gamer builds various buildings on a special platform and expands it, erects defensive structures, sends robots to extract scarce resources, and establishes production chains. Periodically, the user repels attacks from monsters from nightmares. He can get into a steamboat and use it to manually fight enemies. This mechanism also allows you to explore the surrounding area. At such moments, an indie project turns into an isometric action game. While exploring locations, you can find lost technologies from vanished empires.

The game has crafting. You can create various equipment and equip the above-mentioned robot with it. In addition, there is a technology tree that expands gaming capabilities. If there is too large a concentration of opponents or the depletion of raw material deposits, the player is free to order the city to rise into the air and move to another part of the map. If the metropolis turns out to be too heavy or the fuel runs out quickly, it will soon collapse when trying to take off. Moving to another zone forces you to abandon all previously built ground infrastructure.
