SpellForce: Conquest of Eo is noticeably different from other video games in the series. In this offshoot, the developers changed the genre. If previous parts were hybrids of RTS and RPG, then here 4X strategy is mixed with tactics. In this spin-off, everything happens step-by-step, and not in real time, as before. There are fewer role-playing game elements. The developers have simplified leveling up and greatly changed the concept of heroes. They are now actually enhanced analogues of ordinary warriors. Fighters earn experience in battle, increase levels and become stronger. Some soldiers have additional skills such as the ability to heal allies. This project has 100 units and 60 spells. In this title you can extract resources, participate in random events, move troops, learn and use spells, establish relationships with friendly cities, look for artifacts, students and workers.
The action takes place in the lands of Eo. The world is inhabited by dwarves, griffins, orcs, demons, goblins and other creatures. The player takes on the role of a sorcerer. He inherited a magic tower from his teacher. This building floating above the ground can move. It can be improved by building new rooms in it. The user needs to take revenge on the magicians of the Circle for the death of the teacher, capture the continent and free the Archflame from the usurpers. This is the name given to sources in this fantasy dimension that provide magical powers. You need to establish control over them in order to expand the territory of your possessions. The story is told through text and pictures. Sometimes the user is allowed to make decisions at plot points. His choice allows you to go to 2 endings. The global map in the campaign is randomly generated.
The gamer can choose one or 3 professions (archetypes) for the main character:
- Alchemist – crafts explosive vials and potions used in battles;
- Necromancer – raises creatures from the dead and commands these powerful undead;
- Master – creates magical items and glyphs.
